Sabita Panigrahi

Sabita Panigrahi has contributed immensely to the promotion of Odia drama, music and literature in North America. Since her arrival in Canada in 1987, she has enthusiastically undertaken various leadership roles centered around the Odia arts in North America.

Sabita holds accomplishments in many different Odia art forms. Not only does she apply her background in classical music to the coordination and execution of authentic Odia pieces, but she also assists in direction of Odia naataka and is herself a remarkable actress. Over the course of her involvement with North America Odia organizations, Sabita has acted in over 30 different plays and has coordinated and performed over 50 singing pieces. Along with her passion for the performing arts, she plays an active role in the promotion of Odia literature in North America. She has contributed significantly to the establishment of printing the Odia script in North America. She was the first to design and generate a computer font for Odia characters for her Master Thesis in Computer Science, which was subsequently used in the annual OSA (Odisha Society of Americas) Souvenir. She made this notable contribution in 1988, just a few months after arriving in Canada and has been an active member of the OSA community since.
