Deepa Mahanti

Deepa Mahanti is a Canadian filmmaker, writer, and mentor known for her realism-driven storytelling and socially conscious cinema. Rooted in her Indian heritage, her work explores identity, migration, mental health, resilience, and emotional healing. She is recognized for creating emotionally layered narratives that honour human experiences with authenticity and compassion.

Her film Saanvi gained recognition for addressing social justice, grief, patriarchy, and mental health within South Asian communities, while her earlier project Isaac (2019) showcased her work as director, writer, and casting director. Beyond filmmaking, Deepa mentors emerging artists and advocates for meaningful, community-centered storytelling through cinema and art.
