Eric Walters

Eric Walters began writing in 1993 as a way to entice his grade 5 students into becoming more interested in reading and writing.  Each day he would read to his students the story he was writing which was set in their school, in their community and with some of the students as characters.  At the end of the year – and the end of the novel- one of the students suggested that he try to have this story published.  This book, Stand Your Ground, became Eric’s first published novel.

Since that first creation, Eric has published 125 novels and picture books.  His novels have all become best-sellers, have won over a hundred awards, and have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Eric writes in a variety of genres including historical fiction, contemporary, first chapter books, picture books, sports, and mystery, and non-fiction, but often his stories incorporate themes that reflect his background in education and social work and his commitment to humanitarian and social justice issues.  He has donated all the royalties from his book about Terry Fox, Run, to The Terry Fox Foundation, and was the person who conceived, and then actively promoted, The National Run Day in 2005 to mark the 25th Anniversary of Terry’s run.

Eric conceived of the I Read Canadian Day.  He collaborated with organizations, publishers, booksellers and writers/illustrators to launch the first day which took place on February 19, 2020.  This involved close to 2000 schools and libraries across the country championing Canadian books with their students and patrons.  This is an ongoing project which is being shaped and evolving as an annual event.

Founded in 2014, ICAC is a federally registered not for profit organization under Canada Corporations and is a non-government, non-partisan, and non-religious Organization.

ICAC is governed by a volunteer board of directors and guided by an advisory board, comprising community members who have vast experience and varied interests with their knowledge, skills, and influence within their professional work and social circles. These individuals excel in their fields, be it volunteer work, arts, finance, media and marketing, education, technology, or social work.

ICAC is excited to introduce the Canada Literature Festival, dedicated to celebrating knowledge, ideas, and creating a vibrant space for authors, thinkers, and readers to come together.

Since 2017, ICAC gratefully acknowledges the partially funding support from the Government of Canada through the Canadian Heritage – Building Communities Through Arts & Heritage program, and the Government of Ontario through its Experience Ontario program for the Diwali RazzMatazz Festival series held across Niagara Falls, Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, and various other locations. Additionally, ICAC is thankful for the support extended by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and numerous municipalities, cities and other government bodies in Canada and India.

ICAC also initiates the annual International Day of Yoga and India’s Independence Day at the majestic Niagara Falls with the illumination of the fall in Indian tri colours.

Creators Gala is a platform to recognize excellence in artistic and cultural backgrounds.
